Here is your on the Water Report from the Truckee River. The Truckee River’s flow has dropped since the last report. We’re looking at about 350 CFS for the downtown gauge, the water temperatures have dropped too.
This morning the Water started off at 61°F. Which is perfect, it is nice to have a little cool down after some hot days. You still want to keep your eyes on those temps but it looks like for the foreseeable future we should be able to be out in the morning.
The fishing has been pretty good, the bugs have gotten a lot smaller which is pretty typical of August. Typically we start getting into some smaller mayfly species here and there so we’ve been fishing right around #16s and #18s. We have been finding the fish spread out in many different types of water throughout the day. They move into faster water as the temperature warms up. Streamer fishing has been okay but not something that I’ve been focusing on a ton. A crayfish pattern, like the Cray Z Emma, under an indicator or Euro style has helped put some of those bigger fish into the net.
We should have plenty of water the rest of the season. I am thinking it is going to be a spectacular Fall. We have begun to book our early season Pyramid Lake trips. Call the shop and get on the calendar now!
Hope to see you soon have a good one. -Mike Anderson
