Never cast a fly rod? Only stepped in the river for a weekend float? Not a problem! Sharing our love for the water is what we do best. The Reno Fly Shop has created a fully customized and unique Fly Fishing Education Program. We have started with our successful private lesson curriculum and adapted it to the group environment.
Our classes, Fly Fishing 101 (FF-101), Fly Fishing 201 (FF-201) and Fly Fishing 301 (FF-301) are group lessons offered by our in-house guide/instructors. Reasonably priced and information dense, these date specific courses allow the students to get themselves ready for a fun day on the water. These classes are space limited so registration is required.
We offer private instruction. Attending a 3hr intro class is a great way to learn the basics of fly fishing.

FLY TYING 101
Our Fly Tying 101 class is a great way to step into the fun pursuit of tying your own flies.
This 90 minute introductory class will expose you the basics of fly tying and help give you a good foundation to build upon. Each student will have a completely stocked workstation to learn from. The workstation will include vise, tools and materials. Our instructor will discuss what you use, when and how. Our intention at the end of the class is for each student to understand the tools to use to tie a simple trout fly used in our area.

FLY TYING 201
Once you have completed the FT101 you are ready to take the next step in your fly tying journey. FT201 shares intermediate to advanced techniques to begin tying more complex fly patterns using both natural and synthetic materials as well as in depth instruction on techniques to make durable effective fly patterns for fresh and saltwater.
Instruction will include tool techniques, material selection and epoxy techniques to make the most of your fly ties. This is a class that you will spend approximately 2 hours tying fies. We require that FT101 have been taken so students are starting from the same place with foundational learning and exposure to the basics.
You will have the opportunity to learn to tie several fly patterns that you can use in our regional waters.
