Fly Fishing Seasons
Our guides work year-round on the region's rivers and lakes. If a location is closed for the season, we'll suggest alternative options to get you out on the water.
Below are our most popular offerings by season.
Truckee River
We consider the Truckee our home river and a really good friend. We have collectively spent countless days walking the banks and floating the rapids. We are excited to share this experience and appreciation for this great western river. We offer walk/wade and float trips, plus group outings to make your gathering memorable.
Season:
Truckee River Walk + Wade trips are available year round.
Truckee River Float trips are available throughout the year depending on water conditions. Float Trips in August are most often not available due to low water conditions.
Pyramid Lake
Fish the iconic Pyramid Lake fishery on the hunt for the historic Lahontan Cutthroat Trout with the Reno Fly Shop.
Season:
Pyramid Lake Wade trips are available from October 1 (start of fishing season) until early May.
Area Stillwater
The Reno Fly Shop offers Stillwater fishing in the Sierras with guide Brendan Landman on his watercraft, with great angling for all ages and abilities.
Season:
Plumas NF Boat Trips are available through two distinct times of year. March through June as well as September through November provide quality conditions for fishing. Winter is generally not available as many of the lakes in Plumas NF ice over.
Area Rivers
Fish local rivers with our experienced guides such as the beautiful Feather River or scenic Walker River.
Seasons:
MF Feather River Float Trips are available when water conditions are higher in the spring. These are available most commonly from February to May.
MF Feather River Walk + Wade Trips are available through most of the year besides late summer when water temperatures are high. Being a freestone stream, water conditions can vary even day to day.
East Walker Walk + Wade trips are available beginning in early spring and continue through June. We begin guiding the East Walker after the summer heat fades in September. These trips will be available through fall assuming stable flows.
