We are moving into summer and the Truckee River is in great shape. The current flows are a bit higher than historic levels but it still easy to find spots to wade and access fishy holds. We are seeing mid day hatches. Especially when the wind stays down.
Flies we suggest for the Truckee River: Split Case PMD, RFS Perdigon (black), Slush Egg, Momba Ant, Masked Marauder, Emma Stone, Dead Drift Crayfish, OCD Caddis, Soft Hackle PT
The fish seem to be moving into faster water by mid day. As water temps move into the low and mid 50s the fish have been eager and willing to feed on the surface. Try a dry fly if you find the fish organized and feed with regularity. Feel free to swing by the shop for details on tactics and approach.
We have lots of classes and guide trips available for you to schedule. Summer is our busiest booking season, so we recommend getting on the calendar now with one of our guides. We have half and full day trips available that cover several different rivers, streams and stillwaters. You can choose to wade, flyfish from a raft or explore one of our local reservoirs on our guided stillwater boat trips.

Our stillwater specialist and guide, Brendan Landman, recently recorded a video highlighting one of his preferred techniques for fishing stillwaters when the fish are a bit deep. He uses the Reno Fly Shop Slip Indicator Leader to fish effectively at 10-25 feet.
