On-the-Water Fly Fishing Report | Truckee River and Pyramid Lake | early May 2019

May 3, 2019 | FISHING REPORT, Pyramid Lake, Reno Fly Shop, Truckee River

Spring runoff is in full swing and the Truckee River should stay on the high side for the next month. It is still very fishable and success is greater if you focus along the edges in softer water. Attractor nymphs, worm patterns and stoneflies are producing the most fish for us.

Truckee River flies suggest: Perdigon Black #14 and #16, Zebra Midge, Tunghead Stonefly, Hot Spot, Mylar Prince, Hot Cheek, Quill Jig

Fly fishing our local reservoirs has been very good. Many of the same tactics you have utilized this past winter at Pyramid Lake can be applied to our local stillwaters. Slight change in rod and size of flies but the tactics and approach are largely the same. Swing by the shop to discuss details and some suggestions we have for flies and spots.
