Truckee River

The River is entering its prime condition with the firt part of June. A variety of insects are set to hatch or are already hatching including but not limited to Pale Morning Duns (PMD’s), Green Drakes, Yellow Sallies, Golden Stones, and caddis.

It won't come as a surprise to many that crayfish are an key target of trout in the summer. We have some outstanding crayfish imitations in the shop. Including our custom Cray Z Emma and the new and improved Dead Drift Crayfish.

Water to target in early summer on the Truckee River consists of fast flowing pocket water and eager fish. As water temps continue to rise, fish and insecects start to move into fast riffles and oxygenated zones. Look for fish to congregate in these spots over the coming weeks!

Flies we suggest for the Truckee River:

Dries: Hair Wing PMD, Comparadun, Missing Link, Parachute Drake, Snowshoe Sallie, Golden Chubby, Stimulator, EC Caddis and Elk Hair Caddis

Wet we suggest: TNT, Hot Head Carot, HBI (hunchback Infrequen), Psycho May, Jigged CDC PT, Pheasant Tail Nymph, BH Bird's Nest, Masked Marauder, OCD Caddis, BH Krystal Caddis

Crayfish we suggest: Cray Z Emma, Dead Drift Crayfish, TJ Hooker, Mini Cray, and Polar Jig

East Walker River

The East Walker River should have a solid run through the end of June. Insect life varies significantly depending on the section you fish this time of year. Look for fish pushing into fast water in the next few weeks.

The hopper bite through June can be great and we are looking forward to it! Fishing riffles with a dry/dropper technique should find fish throughout the river. PMD’s, Golden Stones, and caddis make up a large share of an East Walker trouts’ diet.

Get out there while you can. Late summer can be very hot and marks the end of our fishing here until temperatures drop again in the fall.

Dries we suggest: Purple Chubby, Foam Hopper, Double Dutch, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulator

Wets we suggest: BH Krystal Caddis, OCD Caddis, Hot Head Carot, Silver Fish, Split Case PMD, Peaches n Cream, Olive Hot Spot
