Why We've Joined 1% for the Planet
As anglers, we witness firsthand the beauty and fragility of our aquatic ecosystems. The crystal-clear rivers of the Sierra Nevada, the pristine lakes of the Great Basin, and the delicate balance of nature that sustains them are not just our playground—they're our responsibility.
By pledging 1% of our annual sales to environmental nonprofits, we're making a tangible commitment to protect these precious resources for generations to come. This isn't just good business—it's essential stewardship of the places that make fly fishing possible.
What is 1% for the Planet?
Founded in 2002 by Patagonia's Yvon Chouinard and Blue Ribbon Flies' Craig Mathews, 1% for the Planet connects businesses, individuals, and nonprofit organizations tackling our planet's most pressing environmental issues. Members commit to donating at least 1% of annual sales to environmental causes.
The network has grown to include thousands of businesses worldwide that have collectively contributed millions to environmental protection and restoration projects.
Our Local Impact
Through 1% for the Planet, we're focusing our giving to local non-profits that directly impact our regional watersheds:
- Walker Basin Conservancy - Works to restore and maintain Walker Lake while protecting agricultural, environmental, and recreational interests throughout the Walker Basin.
- The Nature Conservancy - Nevada - efforts in the past and on-going to improve the habitat and riparian ecosystem of the Truckee River.
- Western Rivers Conservancy - Their moto says a lot "Sometimes to save a river, you have to buy it". WRC buys land along the West’s finest rivers and streams to conserve habitat for fish and wildlife, protect key sources of cold water and provide public access for all to enjoy.
- Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful - Is dedicated to creating a more sustainable and beautiful region through waste reduction, education and active community involvement.
