When the water levels are fluctuating and slightly off color during the winter, fly selection can become challenging. Fish and aquatic bugs don’t always behave in typical fashion. Interestingly it seems our ability to fish during the holiday season is about as inconsistent.
To make the most of our time on the water, fly selection is critical. The Vladi Worm is often our ‘go to’ fly during the winter months by consistently out fishing other patterns. Mike, here in the shop, has fished it successfully at several National Championships and international competitions and will often choose it over other patterns in higher water conditions. We have been tying this pattern for our own boxes for a while now and have decided to make some available as an exclusive in the Reno Fly Shop fly bins. Come in and check these out. You won’t be disappointed.
We are excited to be here for all of you holiday fly fishing shopping.

Winter fishing on the Truckee River
Several customers got their holiday shopping done and were able to sneak out between storms this week. The fishing on the Truckee through town is good. Dry/dropper and high stick nymphing seems to be hooking the most fish. Here are a couple really nice pics sent in by Jason Mattick after he ended up another semester teaching math and coaching JV football at Reno High School.
