UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE FORCED TO CANCEL HAPPY HOUR #1. WE WILL RESCHEDULE IT WITH LANIE AS SOON AS WE CAN. SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. -Jim

Kicking off our 2019 Happy Hour season is Lanie Galland

Lanie is a conservation geneticist and avid fly angler working towards her Ph.D. at the University of Nevada, Reno. She grew up fly fishing the rivers of North Georgia and the intercoastal waterways of St. Simons Island before moving west in 2009. Currently residing in Truckee, Lanie is working towards her Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology at UNR. Her passion revolves around conserving the natural ecosystems in which we live.

Naturally, Lanie joined Reno Fly Shop as a guide in Spring of this year, specializing in both introductory lessons and guided Truckee River trips.

Lanie has been involved in the Mongolian taimen fishery for the last four years. As a scientist and an angler, she and the greater taimen research team have made great strides in taimen conservation across Mongolia, work for which she has been invited to present at scientific conferences internationally.

In 2018 she returned from the 2018 Lake Baikal Expedition with Peter Fong, Guido Rahr IV, and others, where she descended 1,500 km from the headwaters of the Delgermörön River down to the Selenge River in a drift boat, all the way to Lake Baikal in Russia. During the expedition, Lanie and the expedition team collected thousands of biological samples to help determine the most effective and efficient conservation and management strategies for taimen across riverine ecosystems. Currently, Lanie acts as both a scientist and a fly fishing guide for Mongolian taimen. She’s been lucky enough to catch more than her fair share of taimen on the (giant) fly!
