Fishing Report June 4, 2015

Lake Davis and Frenchman’s Lake

The Damsel hatch is full on right now.  It should be really good through the month for both lakes.  Even with our dry conditions these lakes are holding water and many eager trout.  Floating lines and 8-12’ leaders to 5x will be the setup.  Scientific Anglers Nymph/Indicator and GPX Hover lines can deliver long leaders and multiple flies with consistency.  Callibaetis will begin in a week or so and we are all keeping an eye out for the Hexagenia to appear mid-summer.

Flies: Damsels, Damsels, Damsels (do you get it?)

Upper Section from Little Truckee Confluence to the Reno Fly Shop
The Upper Truckee River is in fishable shape.  Flows are low but stable and the temps are good.  The rain we got a couple of weeks ago really helped the system.  Best to fish early and late in the day.  Hatches are shaping up and there have been very consistent Ants, PMD, PED and Caddis.

Flies: Tailwater Tiny Olive #18, Parachute Adams #12-#18, Foam Flying Ant #16, Hunchback PMD #16, Hot Wing Caddis #12-#14, Jigged Caddis Pupa Tan #14-#16

Lower Section from the Reno Fly Shop downstream of the Truckee Meadows

The water has begun to settle into summer conditions.  Best to fish early in the day and then find something else as the water temps rise.  Midge, mayfly and caddis are coming off early in the day and it nymph fishing has been very consistent.  Don’t forget to try to terrestrials and crayfish.  We encourage everyone to carry a stream thermometer to monitor water temps.  Give the fish a break when the temps creep up towards 70s degrees.  We will try to monitor closely here from the shop but it is best to take a quick reading when on the water.

Flies: Oops #16, Poxyback Stonefly #14, Parachute Madam X #10 and #12, Parachute Adams #12 and #14, Thunder Thighs #12, Baby Boys #16, Dead Drift Crayfish

Carson River – West and East Fork
The recent storms have been best for the Carson River watershed.  It pick up a couple feet of snow and much need rain. The West Fork is fishing well in Hope Valley with terrestrials, hoppers and ants.  Super fun to try this water with a light rod and a hopper.  The East Fork is fishing is in good shape both upstream and downstream of Hangman’s Bridge near Markleeville.  Caddis, mayflys and a few Stones.  Try this water before summer flows.

Flies:  Parachute Hopper #10, Baby Boy Tan #16, Morpho Flying Ant #12-#14
