There are many days when we are at work and wish we could slip away for an hour or two (maybe only 45 minutes) and sneak in a quick fly fishing session. Maybe dedicate a weekend or part of a family vacation to fish. But for many reasons; time, responsibility and life seem to get in the way. We wonder what it would take to make time to fly fish every day. In Episode 7 I sit down with Wayne Mackey. He did make the time to fish. He made time every single day for an entire year. Yep, 365 consecutive days of fly fishing.
Wayne is a regular guy. Mortgage, job, marriage, family, a couple dogs and all of the complexity that goes with those things. Still in September 2014 Wayne decided to fly fish every day for a whole year (errr that is 365 consecutive days of fly fishing in one of the worst droughts in recent history). And what better day to start such an adventure but on his wedding anniversary… Yes it is that incredible and when you hear Wayne tell his side of the story it sounds quite simple.
As you will hear he didn’t do it for the glory or prestige. He didn’t do it for sponsors or social media fame. [side note: I can save you the time searching. He isn’t on social at all]. He did it simply to do it. With support from Ann, us and a bunch of personal discipline he completed this journey on October 1, 2015. He fished in 6 states. At night, during the day, in all kinds of weather, mostly in moving water but a few lakes and never took a picture of a fish.
I have been hoping to record this conversation since the idea for this podcast was hatched. We finally sat down and I was simply fascinated with the details that Wayne shared. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
