Backcountry Hunters and Anglers – UNR Chapter is forming (needs your help)

Hey guys, Ryan Hughes and Matt Needs here.

Turkey 2016[640]

We are starting a University of Nevada chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, as a part of the organization’s collegiate program. Though we are not yet an officially established club at UNR, we need to come up with a full roster in order to form the club.

The Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is an organization which advocates for our public lands. They fight against land transfers, which are often from federal ownership to state ownership. With the growing threat of land transfers becoming more and more prevalent, our club is passionate about organizing young outdoorsmen/women and doing our part in public land advocacy. This is extremely important to us because it is where we hunt, fish, ski, bike, kayak, and do any other outdoor endeavors. For many of us, it’s a critical part of our lives, and we intend to keep it that way.
Our club plans to hold monthly meeting to organize events and meet and greet new members. Along with supporting the cause of BHA, we also intend to create this club as a way to gather like-minded people.

Matt Needs is a staff member at the Reno Fly Shop.  He is also a student at the Univ. of Nevada studying Geological Engineering. When not in class or the shop Matt is fly fishing all of our local waters and the Steelhead Rivers of western Oregon.  In summer Matt is a fly fishing guide in Montana and will be found most days on the oars of his drift boat with clients throwing dry flies.
