Truckee River

Upper Section from Little Truckee Confluence to the Reno Fly Shop
The Upper Truckee River is in great shape and has been giving up fish. Flows are perfect and the temps have been keeping cool. Seems the summer bugs are really coming early this year. Baetis early in the day, Midge mid day and Caddis in the evening. Nymphing seems to be the most productive with the occasional fish willing to take a dry fly over a dropper. Keep your eyes open for the hoppers and ants. It won’t be long for terrestrials to really light up.

Flies:
Nymphs: Copper Johns Black #14 and #16, Quasimodo #14 and #16, Prince Nymph #10, Zebra Midge Red and Black 18, Mighty May Sloan Baetis 18

Dry Flies: Bionic Ant 12, Parachute Adams 12 and 14, Hackle Stacker Baetis 16, Low Water Baetis 16

Lower Section from the Reno Fly Shop downstream of the Truckee Meadows

This section has the most consistent fishing with a good chance to find rising fish on days with cloud cover. This section is most consistent with nymphing techniques. Also seems to be a bit advanced from the upper section. Ants are out and several big rainbows have been caught on them. Great time to fish dry/droppers with Baetis droppers under a big floating ant.,

Flies:
Nymphs: Copper Johns Black #14 and #16, Flashback Pheasant Tails #14, Zebra Midge Red and Black 18, Epoxy Golden Stone #8 and #10

Dry Flies: Bionic Ant 12, Parachute Adams 12 and 14, Hackle Stacker Baetis 16, Elk Hair Caddis Brown and Olive #14, Hackle Stacker BWO #16 and #18

Terrestrials: Thunder Thighs #12, Baby Boys #16

Davis, Frenchmans and Area Lakes

The warm weather has bugs out early. Surface and subsurface action is very consistent. The midge hatch is on and the Caddis is not far behind. Damsels will show up in the next week or so and the fish will be on ’em. The subsurface bite with general searching patterns like the Sheep Creek Special is very consistent and fishes well throughout the day. Early and late while the sun is off the water is the best but look for days with cloud cover and a wind blowing into your face. An ant fall is hard to predict but when it happens and you are there it is super fun.

Flies: Sheep Creek Specials #8, #10 and #12, Twin Lake Special #10, Ice Cream Cones Red #12, Copper John Red #14, Hare’s Ear #16, Foam Flying Ant #16

Pyramid Lake

Pyramid is fishing very well. The bite seems to randomly alternate between streamers and nymphs. It is best to keep at it and wait for it to turn on. The cruisers are still around and the occasional brute is being caught. The Nets can get crowded with the right weather/wind. Fish are spread out now and quieter beaches are catching good numbers. The past weekend was really good. These conditions will continue all the way through the end of June.

Flies: Boobies Black/Purple and Chartreuse/White, Midnight Cowboys, Purple Cowboys, Bloody Marys
