CAFFEINATED CASTING (August 15) and CASTING CLASSES SCHEDULED

Jul 15, 2015 | Classes, Events, Reno Fly Shop

The summer has so far shaped up to be one of the wettest we have had in a long time. Both the occasional pulse of water in our low rivers and the cooling cloud cover helps a lot to get the remaining fish closer to the cool nights and increased water of fall/winter.

Let’s try to give the trout in the Truckee River a rest and find some other great opportunities to fish in our area. In the long run it will be the best for all involved with the River.

CAFFEINATED CASTING CLINIC/DEMO AND COMPETITION – AUGUST 15
@ Hub Coffee on Riverside Drive

We are excited to team up again with a great local coffee spot to host a casting clinic, demo and low key competition. The Hub Coffee Roasters (on Riverside Drive) will once again be the spot for our Caffeinated Casting competition. August 15, starting at 9:00 we will have set up an area for you to try out some of the new ‘guns’ in the fly fishing world and the best lines to pair with them. We will have some of the best fly casters in the area sharing their secrets and techniques. Jamie Lyle, our SAGE, RIO and Redington rep, will be conducting a free clinic on casting techniques starting at 9:00. Following the clinic (about 9:45) we will open the casting field to try all of the new and exciting products from SAGE, RIO and REDINGTON.

At 11 we will put it all to the test. You will be able to choose two categories to compete in. The 8wt & Under will simply allow you three attempts to cast the farthest distance and to have the bragging rights as our areas biggest caster (and some great prizes). The 5wt & Under will have distance and an accuracy element.

This will be very informative and low key. With a chance to improve your distance and accuracy casting. Call or stop by the shop for more details.

CASTING CLASSES SCHEDULED (July 21st, 28th and Aug. 4th-two handed)

We have built these classes a quick afterwork session that will focus on all aspects of casting. The first two classes July 21st and 28th will be single hand casting classes. We have set the Aug. 4th class aside for work with two handed rods but if the interest is there we will have a second class that day for single hand casting too.

These classes are a bargain at $25/class or $60/all three. We will cap the classes at 5 students/class so please register soon.

Fly Fishing Skills Class Scheduled (July 23, July 28 and July 30)

The next installment of our very popular skills class is scheduled and registration is open. This class taught by our shop staff and special guests will expose you or reintroduce you to all of the important aspects of fly fishing our local waters. The cost of the class is $125 and all equipment is provided. If you have your own gear please bring it. We will get it tuned up and have you become more familiar with what you have. The classes occur right at the shop or a short walk away. This is a slightly modified curriculum. Normally we would spend the 4th class on the Truckee River. Due to low water conditions the third class will have an abbreviated portion spent on a local pond to apply some of the casting techniques we covered previously on the Truckee River.

Because of the direct instruction we provide we feel it best to limit the class to 6 students. Registration is on a first come basis so please come in and register as soon as you can.

July 23rd – 6:30 pm – Fly Casting
July 28th – 6:30 pm – Knots/Rigging
August 4th – 6:30 pm – Streamside approach and water casting
